Hello There,
Today I would like to share with you about my experiences thus far with wine in my life! I began drinking wine when I lived in Richmond, and the liquor store was closed and I didn't want beer. My friends and I only started out with the classiest of box wines that seemed to contain the highest alcohol percentage. However, within the past couple of years I have turned a new leaf and really started to enjoy wine for more than the fact that it has a greater alcohol percentage than beer.
I personally enjoy sweet wines. Preferably white wines. I have heard time and time again that I will eventually enjoy the bitter notes of red wines. However, I still have yet to find true pleasure in most dry reds. There is something that I find utterly horrible in drinking something that tastes like I'm drinking a leather strap that was once used to straddle or whip a horse. Obviously whenever I am confronted with such a wine, I entertain the idea that it will taste better than what it sounds. Then proceed to take it in a shot like fashion. There is no need to spit out alcohol in my mind. Well, that is my opinion for now.
My real interest in wine peeked when I went to visit my brother, Joe, and his wife, Liz, down near the Virginia Beach area. They decided they would take me to all the wineries in their area, and we used the trusty wine map to guide our way there. The tastings were wonderful, and there is nothing quite like collecting your wine trophies along the way. My brother stated that you must keep all of your wine trophies. Wine trophies are the wine glasses you use for tastings from each winery you attend. It was the first time that I really fell in love with wine.
Since then, I have gone on a wine weekend with Joe and Liz out to the Shenandoah Valley and Centralish Virginia wine trail parts. We went to a large number of wineries, some cideries, some breweries, and we even ended up at a distillery! I was so excited to get all of my wine trophies! I also ended up buying some very delicious wines along my journey. There were so many wineries that I almost wish I would have had an entire week to spend out there to really get to go to each one. I am constantly trying to try more wine. I love seeing when there are tastings, and I try to go to them when I can. I am currently attempting to set up another wine weekend or something of the sort, with either friends, family or whomever would like to go. I hope to learn more about my own pallet, and as much about wine as possible. I may even one day wish to open up my own winery, so the more I know the better!
